Fox Sports anchor Dan Patrick told a gathering of environmental advocates at a Washington hotel on Monday that the Trump administration is going to win the fight for the environment in the 2020 election.
Patrick, who recently announced his candidacy for president, said he was impressed with the “brave” action taken by the Environmental Protection Agency, which he said “has stood up for our environment” during Trump’s presidency.
“The EPA will not back down from its commitment to protecting our environment,” Patrick said.
“They’ve been a leader in this fight for a long time.
It is time for the president to pick up the baton and start fighting for our health and our future.”
Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt is also on board, but it’s unclear if he will be the EPA’s new head after Pruitt was confirmed.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Trump has repeatedly called climate change a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese and has repeatedly threatened to scrap the Clean Power Plan, a centerpiece of the Obama administration’s climate change agenda.
Pruitt has also repeatedly rejected scientific research that links carbon emissions from power plants to global warming.
