Posted October 11, 2018 06:18:10 Illinois Department of Environmental Protection (IDEP) reports that jobs in its environmental protection division (EPA) have grown by 7% in the past year.
IDEP also reported that the number of EPA employees working in environmental protection fields grew by 5% last year.
According to IDEP, the agency’s total number of employees rose by 3,716 in 2017.
In 2018, the number increased by 5 percent, which was the highest increase since IDEP began tracking this information in 2017 and surpasses the agency-wide increase in 2016.
In 2018, there were 543 EPA employees on active duty.
IDPA reported that there were 479 employees working for the agency in environmental defense fields.
The majority of these employees are in the environmental protection field, with nearly 60 percent of them in environmental prosecution.
The environmental protection jobs growth rate was driven by the hiring of new employees and promotions.
The Environmental Protection Agency has 1,096 EPA employees across its six divisions.IDEP’s Division of Environmental Justice has about 7,000 employees and the Division of Clean Water and Drinking Water has about 3,400 employees.
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has about 1,100 employees and it has about 2,300 employees in the Environmental Defense Division.
The U.S. Forest Service has about 4,200 employees and there are approximately 2,500 employees in its Environmental Justice Division.
