How to watch the Senate confirmation hearing for Pruitt’s EPA nominee: a guide

Presented by ExxonMobil, the Senate is expected to approve a nominee for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Monday.

The nominee will likely face intense scrutiny from the U of T’s faculty and staff, and from a Senate committee tasked with oversight of the agency.

Here’s how to watch Monday’s hearing:In his opening statement, Pruitt will ask senators to “understand the agency’s mission, its scope, and its importance to the health and welfare of the nation.”

Sen. Richard Burr, the top Republican on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, is expected in attendance.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, the No. 3 Republican on that panel, is also expected to testify.

Burr is known for his conservative positions on energy and the environment, including his opposition to the Keystone XL oil pipeline.

Murkowski is one of the only Democrats on the panel to support the pipeline.

Pruitt’s nomination is expected for a floor vote at 10 a.m.

The full Senate will then consider Pruitt’s nomination by a simple majority.
